"All photographs
are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another person's (or thing's) mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time's relentless melt. " - Susan Sontag |

ApproachA portrait is not just an image; it's a vibrant collaboration between you and your subject.
How do you reveal a deep truth about someone with a photo? How do you evoke not only their beauty, but also their strength, their truth, something deeper and powerful? Your job is to create a moment behind the lens and to pull out something genuine from your subjects. Capture your subject doing what they love! It holds far more depth and meaning than a posed shot ever could. |
PerspectivePay close attention to your perspective when shooting portraits.
Is the shot more flattering from above? What happens if I shoot my subjects from below and use the blue sky as a backdrop? What changes if we are both sitting on the ground? Experiment with new perspectives to shake up your creativity in the moment and to keep the subject engaged in the process. Each new perspective or vantage point offers something unique. An exaggerated view is often overlooked and we don't go beyond the traditional headshot for a portrait. There is an art to accentuating other perspectives to tell a deeper story.
